DELL PowerEdge T160 Server Product Description
The DELL PowerEdge T160 is a compact, single-socket tower server specifically designed to meet the demands of Small to Medium Businesses (SMBs) and Near-Edge environments. It successfully blends an enterprise-level feature set with an affordable price point and an office-friendly design.
Processor and Performance
The T160 is built around a single processor socket supporting either the latest Intel Xeon E-2400 series or the Intel Xeon 6 6300 series processor, offering up to 8 cores. This provides the robust compute power necessary for traditional business applications, mailing/messaging services, and data analytics.
Memory and Storage
The server is equipped with four DDR5 DIMM slots supporting ECC Unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMM) for improved data integrity, with memory speeds reaching up to 4400 MT/s (or up to 5600 MT/s depending on the configuration) and a maximum capacity of 128 GB.
For storage, the T160 offers flexible options within its compact chassis:
- It supports a combination of up to five cabled SAS/SATA drives (e.g., three 3.5-inch and two 2.5-inch drives).
- For optimal boot performance and reliability, it supports the optional Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem (BOSS-N1), which utilizes dual M.2 NVMe SSDs configured in hardware RAID.
Design and Management
- Compact Form Factor: The T160 features a 3U tower chassis that can also be rack-mounted, making it highly versatile for environments with limited space. Its design includes an easy-to-manage filter bezel to protect internal components from dust and grease, which helps maintain acoustic performance suitable for an office setting.
- Sustainability: DELL has committed to sustainability, building the T160 partially from recycled steel and using unpainted plated steel for its exterior to reduce chemical usage.
- iDRAC Management: The server features iDRAC9 (Basic or higher) embedded management, which allows for at-the-server and remote administration, monitoring, and maintenance of the system.
Security and Ports
Security is foundational, with the T160 incorporating Dell’s cyber-resilient architecture. This includes features like Secured-core server capabilities, Silicon Root of Trust, Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module). Connectivity includes dedicated iDRAC, Serial, VGA, multiple USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports, and two 1 GbE LOM (LAN on Motherboard) network ports.
